Our Roots
From Private Docks to National Podiums
Founded in 2020 by Dan and Carol Terryberry, Elizabeth City Rowing Club (ECRC) began with a simple passion for the water and a few small sculling camps on their private property. Coach Carol brought a lifetime of experience to the Pasquotank—from her collegiate career at the University of Virginia to her time at the West Side Rowing Club. Her vision made it possible for the first-ever 8+ shell to launch on the Pasquotank River in August of 2020.
What started with two donated boats and a group of "all-novice" athletes in highlighter-yellow cotton tanks has rapidly evolved into a competitive powerhouse on the East Coast. We take pride in representing the "Harbor of Hospitality," proving that small-town grit can compete with—and beat—the most established programs in the nation.
